Two Weeks Before Surgery The surgery is beginning to seem really close. I start hearing more and more ‘advice’ about surgery options. I am two weeks out and people are telling me horror stories. Each tid-bit of advice is mostly in conflict with other tid-bits that I have been getting. Especially about where I should get the replacement ligament from and about anesthesia options. I decide, after reading dozens of stories from the web, to stick with Dr. Slagle’s original suggestions: Patella Tendon and General Anesthesia. Here is why I reached that decision: first, there seem to be no clear-cut options. The experts are confused over the issue, so who am I to second-guess my doctor. Secondly, if my doctor has his preferred methodologies, I would have to change doctors to feel good about changing methods. I did not want to do that. With my last minute research, I also begin reading everything I can find on the web about ACL surgery. Mostly I am looking for stories about the pain, since that is my biggest fear. There are some wonderful links (see my links sections) that tell many different versions of the ACL surgery woes. I find what I am looking for, and my fear increases. It increases big time! |
